Large prints are printed on acid-free archival quality fine art paper. 20x32” prints are designed to fit in readily available 24x36” frames with a 2.25” matte.
The northern lights, or aurora borealis to give it the proper name, are created by events on the sun giving rise to “space weather”. Like all weather, it’s less than predictable. Every night I check the data from spacecraft an hour sunward of Earth to see what might be on its way. A forecast of strong northern lights sees me getting cameras ready and sometimes driving out to a dark spot in the mountains or, if its strong enough, setting up right outside my home on the lake. In this image taken from my home, I love the way the lights reflect in the water. Later in the year, after the lake freezes over for the winter, the reflections are very different in the ice and then lost as snow covers the lake. The display is never the same twice and a good aurora is always worth losing a night’s sleep.
