Seven Sisters

from $35.00

Pleiades, in the constellation Taurus, is the brightest star cluster that can be seen with the naked eye.  Also called the Seven Sisters in western countries and Subaru, meaning six stars, in Japan, it’s fun to see just how many stars you can see on a cold clear winter night.  In 1610, Galileo took the first look through a telescope and counted 36 stars.  In fact there are more than 1,000.  For this shot I kept my camera and telescope on the cluster for several hours during a single night, tracking it carefully across the sky to prevent blurring.  The clouds you see are gases within the cluster being illuminated by the starlight.
