The best views of the Northern Lights are always found in very dark places. For this shot, I was in Banff National Park overlooking Lake Minewanka. The colours in the lights were constantly shifting, never the same from moment to moment. It’s a breathtaking sight but standing alone in the dark surrounded by forests does sometimes make for a nerve wracking experience. On this particular night I was sure I could hear a bear grunting somewhere nearby. I stayed close to my vehicle just in case and made a little more noise than really befits such a gorgeous calm night.
