Horsehead and Flame Nebulas

from $35.00

These stunningly beautiful nebulae are in the constellation Orion, grouped around Alnitak, the leftmost star in the great hunter's belt.  In this picture Alnitak is the brightest star with the Flame Nebula below and to the left of it. The Horsehead Nebula is below and to the right of Alnitak.  The swirling clouds are glowing with ionized hydrogen.  To make this image, I used a monochrome camera shooting in turn through red, green, and blue filters, and then a special filter that only lets in light from ionized hydrogen.  Combined they show the beauty of this distant star forming region.

Photographed in March of 2022 using light that started its journey to my camera in the year 850AD.
